Job Description

The San Francisco Police Department is seeking civilian professionals to join our team as Community Police Services Aides (PSA). In this role, the PSA performs a variety of police-related duties under general supervision, supporting sworn personnel across a range of operational assignments.

  • Work Location:

    Assignments may include San Francisco International Airport, district stations, SFPD Headquarters, and other departmental locations.
  • Work Hours:

    Must have flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. Mandatory overtime may be required.
  • Work Environment:
    Physical demands include occasional lifting up to 55 lbs., extended standing and walking, outdoor work in varying weather, and noisy environments.

  • Directs vehicle traffic throughout the San Francisco International Airport to maintain safety and security.
  • Interacts with the public in person or over the telephone to obtain or provide information and/or to answer questions regarding police procedures and activities.
  • Issues citations for parking violations at San Francisco International Airport.
  • Completes reports and forms consisting of short descriptive phrases and/or fill in the blanks (e.g. incident reports, supplemental reports, towed cars, expired, invalid and/or damaged identification, security breaches, release of property/evidence).
  • Operates two-way radios to communicate with dispatch and other police personnel.
  • Administers first aid and/or CPR to individuals until medical aid arrives.
  • Transports and/or retrieves evidence to and from Property Room following established procedures.
  • Monitors security camera at District Station to ensure safety and security of station perimeter.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience:

    One (1) year (2000 hours) of satisfactory full-time public contact or military experience; AND
  • Education:

    Possession of a High School Diploma, or proof of successful completion of an equivalency test (GED, or California High School Proficiency Examination); AND
  • Age:
    Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Driver's License:
    Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver license to operate an automobile at the time of application and throughout the selection process.
  • Note:

    One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
