Head of Government Affairs, Thailand-Bangkok

Job Description

The Government Affairs team works on promoting the reputation of the company and improve the business climate as well as support to grow the business. We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader to drive such efforts. This role involves engagement with a broad range of government officials and policymakers, academics, partners, industry associations, multilateral and non-governmental organizations to advance the company’s public policy positions, implementation of reputation building and other strategic initiatives.

The work environment is highly matrixed and cross-functional and will require the candidate to collaborate effectively with a variety of internal stakeholders across diverse disciplines. This role reports to the Executive Vice President and Group Head of Government Affairs for Lazada & Daraz, Alibaba International Government Affairs, with a dotted-line to Lazada Thailand CEO.

• Lead the Government Affairs function of Lazada Thailand;
• Manage and support the government affairs work in Thailand for the Alibaba Group.
• Monitor policies, administrative and/or legislative developments, evaluate potential impact of legislative, administrative, and other proposals that may affect Alibaba and Lazada, and coordinate with related functional teams for internal alignment on next steps;
• Research and develop (in collaboration with Legal and functional teams as appropriate) position papers, talking points to convey the company’s messages to relevant government stakeholders;
• Lead/support the development of profile building initiatives and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to manage the implementation;
• Lead the arrangement of workshops and/or meetings between Alibaba/Lazada and government stakeholders (e.g. meeting setup, talking point / presentation development, minutes taking as needed, etc.);
• Other assignments as requested by the Executive Vice President and Group Head of Government Affairs.

• At least 10 years of demonstrated experience managing public policy and/or government relations and advocacy work;
• Experience working and engaging with policymakers, civil society, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders;
• Ability to understand business models, strategies, public policy, legislative and regulatory challenges for the e-commerce industry;
• Strong project management skills to meet deadlines, establish clear priorities quickly and bring projects to completion on time and within budget;
• Strong interpersonal skills with a problem-solving mindset, with attention to details and accuracy;
• Self-starter who needs minimal supervision;
• Good knowledge of Thailand’s government and regulatory system, environment and institutions;
• Ability to exercise strong judgment and persuasive skills, creativity, and ability to work in a dynamic environment;
• Impeccable degree of discretion, confidentiality, and ethics;
• Excellent English and native language communications skills (spoken and written);
• Degree in related field: law, public policy, public relations, etc.
