Position Overview

Junior, Assistant, or Associate Specialist in the Neurodevelopmental Assessment and Imaging Lab at UCSF.

The primary research area focuses on applying advanced multimodal brain imaging, machine learning, and signal-processing methods to evaluate patients with autism and related neurodevelopmental and genetic disorders as well as relevant comparison groups.

The candidate is expected to develop, utilize, and extend innovative imaging and behavioral data acquisition, processing, and statistical analysis tools to analyze multimodal imaging and other phenotypic data. Main tasks involve data collection, management, analysis, literature review, and assistance in dissemination and writing activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Junior rank: bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a related science or at least four years of research experience.
  • Assistant rank: master’s degree (or equivalent) or bachelor’s degree with three or more years of research experience.
  • Associate rank: master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of research experience.
  • Prior experience with electrophysiological and/or brain imaging data collection and/or processing.
  • Experience and/or training in programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Statistical expertise relevant to the duties.
  • Sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking, and attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with subjects, team members, other departments, and outside institutions; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well with children and demonstrate patience, respect, and compassion to study participants and their families.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BCBA certification or extensive training and experience with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders or communication impairment.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R).
  • Experience with scientific publication and grant writing.
Compensation

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000–$88,000.
