Overview
The UCSF Hematology-Oncology Division at Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) Hospital provides comprehensive, compassionate care to patients with cancer and blood disorders. Under medical direction, the Hospital Assistant performs intake and post-examination duties and supports clinic operations in Hematology, Oncology and Sickle-cell outpatient clinics.
Responsibilities- Panel management: work with an interdisciplinary team on patient appointment reminder calls, follow-up for missed appointments, and gathering patient health maintenance data.
- Perform vital signs on patients and conduct EKGs as assigned.
- Assist with patient flow during clinic hours, escort patients to exam rooms, and maintain exam rooms and equipment.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures and injections; maintain daily lab activity logs.
- Maintain templates for new and current providers, add clinics, and block clinics upon provider requests.
- Assist with patient transport to the main ZSFG building and perform filing, faxing and other clerical duties as assigned.
- High School graduation and three years of appropriate experience, including one year of supervisory experience where applicable; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified in Phlebotomy (California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I).
- Current CPR Certification.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program, including training in giving injections.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills and strong organizational abilities; able to set priorities and follow through on tasks.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to job responsibilities.
- Basic mathematical/computational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a busy, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to push/pull 50 lbs or greater while performing patient transport (wheelchair).
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability.
- Prior experience in a busy medical setting and in a Patient Centered Medical Home clinic.
- At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- Hematology and Oncology experience.
- Bilingual:
English plus Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese. - Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Certified in Phlebotomy (California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I).
- Current CPR Certification.
