Overview
The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the Medical Center at UCSF and its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to: drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies within the Medical Center;
drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is affiliated with the UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic department within the School of Pharmacy, which has primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the Pharm.

- Under the Department of Pharmaceutical Services, the Operational Staff Pharmacist II provides pharmaceutical care to patients at all acute care pharmacy locations within the UCSF Health System. They may also participate in pharmaceutical care in other sectors as needed.
- Perform a wide range of pharmaceutical care functions to assure that drugs prescribed for and used by patients are safe and effective, including obtaining medication histories, reviewing and assessing medication profiles, and providing drug information to patients and health care providers.
- Collaborate with clinicians on drugs of choice and therapeutic plans, ensure access to medications, educate patients on proper use of medications, and address cautions, adverse reactions, and interactions related to therapy.
- Work as part of an interprofessional team with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other professionals.
- Based primarily in the inpatient pharmacy setting; may oversee pharmacy technicians to facilitate insurance authorizations and prepare/dispense medications as needed. May be responsible for oversight of clinical activities and delivery of services.
- Demonstrate flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations depending on operational needs.
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm
D) or equivalent degree as determined by the National Board of Pharmacy.
- Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, or at least 3 years of inpatient/operational pharmacy experience.
- Hold an advanced practice board certification (e.g., Board of Pharmacy Specialty certificates, AAHIVP, etc.).
- Must possess a current license in good standing to practice pharmacy in the State of California.
- Current certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
