Occupational Therapist – Full Time

This is an inpatient position within Saint Francis/St Mary’s hospitals Rehabilitation Services department. The Entry Level Occupational Therapist (Occupational Therapist 1) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The therapist works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The therapist with specific pediatric competencies may also work with infants, children and/or adolescents.
Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed approved provider written referrals, the therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and functional limitations. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive, visual/perceptual, psychosocial, and developmental tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing occupational therapy techniques.
The therapist demonstrates practise competence with patients with more straightforward clinical presentations and may require mentoring or supervision when working in high acuity care settings (e.g., ICU) and/or with patients with more complex clinical presentations. The therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services and may supervise support personnel including Rehabilitation Aides. The therapist seeks out opportunities for ongoing clinical education and professional development.
As a member of the clinical care team, the therapist also participates in compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives in the department, local care setting, and organization.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Required Qualifications- MS or MA degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Less than one year of licensed clinical practice experience.
- Minimum one full‑time fieldwork education experience in acute care hospital or acute rehabilitation setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to recognize signs of distress.
- Basic computer skills including work within Epic electronic medical record.
- Possession of good interpersonal, time‑management, problem‑solving and self‑initiation skills.
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Doctorate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF patient care setting.
- Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team.
- Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
- Possession of or proven eligibility for AHA BLS certification.
