Job Summary
We’re excited to offer a SMH IRF Therapies-OTPTSLP Per Diem 87356 position within Saint Francis and St. Mary’s Hospitals Rehabilitation Services Department. This inpatient role includes a competitive salary and a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for qualified Per Diem Occupational Therapists with acute care experience.
The position is an 8‑hour day shift, weekdays and weekends, with a 20% schedule commitment. The per diem occupational therapist reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides both direct and indirect patient care services to adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The therapist may also work with infants, children and adolescents if the candidate has specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience.
Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals from licensed, approved providers, the therapist plans and administers a full range of occupational therapy services for patients with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using various physical, cognitive and visual/perceptual tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans using occupational therapy techniques.
The therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. The role may also supervise support personnel including Rehabilitation Aides as well as occupational therapy students and clinical fellows. As a member of the clinical care team, the therapist participates in compliance, quality, safety, and process improvement initiatives in the department and the hospital.
Minimum work requirement: two weekend day shifts per month, and one major and one minor winter holiday (e.g., Thanksgiving/Day After, Dec 24/25, Dec 31/Jan
1) per year.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Please note that the compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide; a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80%–120% of the established mid‑point. For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, placement on the range is determined by specific rules.

Certain terms and conditions of employment for this position, including the rate of pay, benefits, etc., are currently subject to negotiation with the University Professional and Technical Employee – Health Care Professionals Unit (UPTE‑HX).
Required Qualifications- MS or MA degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
- Minimum one year of licensed practice experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to recognize signs of distress.
- Basic computer skills including work within Epic electronic medical record.
- Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem‑solving and self‑initiation skills.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Prior experience providing patient care in acute care hospital and acute rehab/IRF patient care setting.
- Possession of or proven eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
- Possession of or proven eligibility for AHA BLS certification.
