Additional ResponsibilitiesKeep up to date on technological advancements in the areas of clinical data processing, including but not limited to Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics; bring awareness to the technical team of new technologies that could have a bearing on Information Commons features and roadmap. Oversee service delivery on specific projects, user service requests, and operational activities.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Salary range: $101,300 - $216,700 (Annual Rate). Placement within the salary range is dependent on experience and internal equity; for union positions, placement will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement.

Department DescriptionThe Institute for Health & Aging (IHA) is the University of California's first campus-wide organized research unit (ORU) devoted to the study of health and aging and is the only ORU in the UCSF School of Nursing. The work of the institute includes extensive and successful research, training and public service in the areas of aging, health and health policy. Since being established in 1985, IHA has been successful in obtaining $326 million in extramural funding and establishing partnerships and collaborations within the university as well as with external groups, particularly with the California Department of Public Health.
Research conducted at IHA has contributed to the passage of many policies on important public health concerns including tobacco use and control, Medicaid waivers for community supports and services, chronic care management, breast cancer and cervical cancer screening, and nursing home regulation and oversight. Additionally, research at IHA has bolstered efforts to protect and preserve important public health programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
- Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational/programming, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of bioinformatics methods, application programming, web development and data structures.
- Thorough knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation.
- Understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.
- Strong project management skills.
- Thorough knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
- Communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel in multiple fields of expertise and at various levels in the organization.
- Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
- Self motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
- Thorough knowledge of web, application and data security concepts and methods.
- PhD in Epidemiology, biological science, computational/programming, or related area.
- Demonstrated application knowledge of large scale data in the field of health/medicine data.
- Experience working with principal investigators (PI’s) in research setting.
- Track record of engaging with and leading user communities.
