Sr. UX Designer, AWS Applied AI Solutions

Job  | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.

Amazon’s Applied AI Solutions org is seeking a talented and passionate Senior UX Designer to join our Healthcare and Life Sciences team. This user experience role will have a significant impact on our business as you contribute to the strategy and design direction for AI-native product experiences that serve scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals. Throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle, you will work collaboratively with your design team, alongside engineers, product managers, and scientists, building future-forward experiences that leverage agentic AI capabilities to accelerate drug discovery, improve patient outcomes, and transform healthcare delivery.

Key

job responsibilities

You will lead design initiatives with a particular focus on designing, constraining, and validating AI agent behavior as a core UX artifact for healthcare and life sciences applications. You will lead initiatives working collaboratively with a cross‑functional team of product managers, UX researchers, scientists, and engineers to explore, innovate, and create ways in which we can help our customers accelerate scientific discovery and improve patient care.

Your role is to identify opportunities across experiences and resolve gaps in our product strategy, building inter‑operational product experiences that solve for those opportunities while ensuring AI‑assisted experiences remain transparent, trustworthy, and grounded in real human needs. You understand that healthcare and life sciences users maintain exceptionally high trust bars—they require AI systems that cite sources, explain reasoning, and support rather than replace professional judgment.

You approach AI not as a feature or shortcut, but as a system that must be intentionally designed, tested, and governed within the context of scientific rigor and regulatory compliance.

You have an “anything is possible” mindset when faced with seemingly hard problems and thrive on uncovering deep customer insights. You love being part of a highly collaborative and high‑energy team that isn’t afraid to swing for the fences. You’re proud of your work, your skills and expertise – but flexible and open to cross‑functional team input, as you want to be part of something impactful.

A

day in the life
  • Craft and validate long‑term design strategies through customer research, prototyping, and proposal documents that advocate for the needs of scientists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals
  • Define AI agent personas and behavioral contracts that articulate the agent's role, responsibilities, boundaries, and escalation behavior—with particular attention to scientific accuracy, citation requirements, and appropriate confidence levels
  • Design for multiple personas with varying technical expertise—from bench scientists with deep biological knowledge to computational biologists managing complex pipelines to clinicians requiring actionable insights
  • Design for both happy path experiences and edge cases, including error states and high‑risk situations where AI behavior could mislead users or compromise scientific integrity
  • Ensure AI agents are designed to assist users by providing guidance, literature‑based reasoning, and synthesis—rather than taking ownership of scientific or clinical decisions
  • Leverage existing design systems (Trans Am, with future transition to RAD) while innovating with domain‑specific patterns, scientific visualizations, and terminology that resonates with scientific users
  • Accelerate design delivery through vibe coding and AI‑assisted prototyping tools, creating functional prototypes that demonstrate complex scientific workflows
  • Conduct ethnographic studies and user research with scientists and clinicians to understand workflows, collaboration patterns, and trust requirements
  • Partner with engineering and science teams to translate prototypes into production‑ready specifications, maintaining alignment through regular syncs and feature tracking documentation
