Aboutthe Department
The Infrastructure group at Cloudflare is responsible for building and maintaining our global network infrastructure. The Hardware Engineering team researches, tests, and deploys new equipment, enabling us to handle 20% of the world’s internet traffic across 330 cities in 120+ countries.
Role OverviewAs a Hardware Systems Engineer
, you will collaborate with Hardware Engineering, Product, and Hardware Sourcing teams to troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize our worldwide fleet of storage and compute servers. Your work will directly influence the performance and reliability of the internet for millions of users.
- Collaborate with software teams to validate bug fixes and assess firmware performance.
- Deploy firmware updates across the server fleet, ensuring compliance and reliability.
- Work with vendors to debug and maintain server components.
- Assist Site Reliability Engineering teams in triaging hardware issues.
- Support Data Centre Engineering teams in resolving hardware faults.
- Develop automation tools for firmware updates and monitoring.
- Document results and progress through reports, internal communications, and presentations.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Understanding of x86 server hardware, including CPUs, memory, storage, and firmware updates.
- Proficiency in Bash and Python scripting for Linux automation.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Salt).
- Familiarity with Redfish, IPMI, and server remote management protocols.
- Experience running production mission-critical systems.
- Familiarity with server hardware architecture and debugging hardware faults.
- Experience managing large server fleets.
- Knowledge of observability tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Team City, and Jira.
