Overview
Applies advanced computational, computer science, data science, and CI software research and development principles, with relevant domain science knowledge where applicable, to perform highly complex research, technology and software development which involve in-depth evaluation of variable factors impacting medium to large projects of broad scope and complexities. Designs, develops, and optimizes components / tools for major HPC / data science / CI projects.
Resolves complex research and technology development and integration issues. Gives technical presentations to associated research and technology groups and management. Evaluates new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects. May represent the organization as part of a team at national and international meetings, conferences and committees. Assists in the design, implementation and recommends new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects.
May lead a team of research and technical staff.
The Director, Imaging IT Innovation will play a key role in advancing AI by the clinical translation of research discoveries, including artificial intelligence (AI) applications, into routine clinical radiology practice and education. This position will support the development and implementation of education and research platforms that integrate with clinical operations, such as systems for education file management, data curation, and anonymization.
This position will collaborate closely with the Department Chair and Vice-Chair for Research to lead the department's Center for Intelligent Imaging in promoting translational initiatives; the position will partner with the Director for Clinical Analytics to enhance data-driven approaches that strengthen clinical care, education, and scientific productivity across the department. Furthermore, the position will provide strategic partnership to the department leadership to complete clinically focused research projects and contributes to departmental strategy to advance imaging research integration, clinical excellence, and digital innovation in an academic setting.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $121,900 - $277,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is a leading academic radiology health science center dedicated to patient care, research and training, and it is one of the largest clinical departments within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. The department has a robust research portfolio supported by federal grants, industry collaborations, state of the art imaging technology, and translational research centers, including the Imaging Center for Intelligence (Ci2).
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in computer / computational / data science, or Domain Sciences with computer / computational / data specialization or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience
• Advanced knowledge of HPC / data science / CI.
• Highly advanced skills, and demonstrated experience associated with one or more of the following: HPC hardware and software power and performance analysis and research, design, modification, implementation and deployment of HPC or data science or CI applications and tools of large-scale scope.
• Demonstrated ability to regularly, effectively communicate with unit-level management.
