Job Summary
This position requires onsite work on a regular basis.
The Beaker Team Lead functions as the Technical Leader in the Beaker lab applications and applies advanced professional concepts and extensive industry knowledge to lead the Beaker application team. They work under the direction of the Lab Information Systems (LIS) Manager and participate in the planning, design, build and testing for the Epic Beaker LIS implementation. They continue to support the Beaker application post go-live and collaborate with Lab and/or Pathology operations to optimize their workflow processes.
In depth knowledge of laboratory application and operational requirements and the ability to translate those into system specifications and configuration is required. Assists with other technical activities including the analysis of new releases to determine how workflow should be modified, building and populating databases and tables during initial system configuration, conducting system testing and conversion data validation. They aid with the development and documentation of project requirements, test plans, internal procedures and establishes change control processes for the application.
The Beaker Team Lead works with the Principal Beaker Trainer to develop user training aids and trains end users in workflow and use of the application. They function as the primary contact to troubleshoot problems and questions from end-users during training, go-live, stabilization and on-going support (7x24). Successful candidates are skilled communicators who made decisions independently and in collaboration with others up and down the project structure.
Attention to detail is a critical skill for this position. Successful candidates enjoy helping other users learn and adapt to use of the application.
The Beaker Team Lead must have 5+ years of experience with LIS application build in a hospital setting.
Prior work experience at UCSF, Benioff Children's Hospital - Oakland or other academic Medical Centers is strongly preferred. Certification and experience with one or more of the following Epic applications is required.
- Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP)
- Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP)
The candidate selected for this role will be required to obtain certification within 6 months of hiring in one or both of the above applications, if not already completed. Additional certifications, such as with middleware software may also be required.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $113,800 - $207,000 (Annual Rate).

The Clinical Applications Team is responsible for designing, testing, and implementing the clinical aspects of UCSF's Electronic Health Record. This includes interoperability with other third party systems and devices.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
- 3+ years of relevant Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Lab Operational experience
- Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.
- Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively, train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.
