Job Overview

The Web Platforms and Digital Experience Manager oversees the planning, development, and management of UCSF websites and web services supporting UCSF programs, projects, and institutional initiatives. The role coordinates website structure, layout, functionality, and integration with backend systems or enterprise platforms, incorporates multimedia and interactive features, and ensures content meets organizational goals while following best practices for usability, accessibility, and governance.

The manager leads the evaluation and adoption of emerging web and digital technologies, including AI‑enabled tools and automation, to improve digital experiences, streamline operations, and support UCSF’s digital transformation objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage UCSF Web Services and Platforms:
    Oversee planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of institutional websites and web platforms. Ensure sites meet standards for accessibility, usability, security, and performance. Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, including AI‑enabled tools, to improve digital experiences, accessibility, content management, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead Web Content Strategy and Governance:
    Establish and maintain web content standards, information architecture, editorial guidelines, and governance processes to ensure consistent, high‑quality digital communications across UCSF websites. Develop proposals to streamline processes and assess AI‑driven solutions to support content strategy, information architecture, and data‑informed decision‑making.
  • Project and Program Management:
    Plan and manage web initiatives and projects, including new site launches, redesigns, and platform enhancements. Define scope, timelines, and resources while ensuring delivery aligns with organizational priorities and leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve service delivery and user experience.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Consulting:
    Partner with campus departments, communications teams, and IT groups to identify web needs, provide strategic guidance, and support development and improvement of departmental websites. Document service expectations and responsibilities, including drafting memoranda of understanding when appropriate.
  • Web Platform Operations and Integration:
    Coordinate configuration and integration of web platforms, hosting services, and related tools to support institutional web services and ensure reliable operations.
  • Analytics and Continuous Improvement:
    Monitor website performance using analytics and user feedback to identify opportunities for improving user experience, content effectiveness, and overall web service delivery.
  • Staff Leadership and Development:
    Supervise and mentor web staff or contributors, assign tasks, manage performance, and facilitate professional development to ensure high‑quality web services and collaborative team operations.
  • Budget and Resource Coordination:
    Assist with planning and monitoring program budgets, vendor services, and resource allocations related to web platforms, tools, and projects to ensure efficient departmental resource use.
  • Policy Development and Campus Engagement:
    Participate in campus committees or working groups related to web governance, accessibility, digital communications, and technology standards; recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, communications, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in web services, digital platforms, website management, or related technical/digital communications roles.
  • Minimum two years of experience supervising or leading staff, project teams, or distributed contributors.
  • Experience managing or supporting enterprise or organizational websites using content management systems and modern web technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing web projects, including planning, implementation, and ongoing support of web platforms or digital services.
