Senior Data Platform Engineer – Responsibilities
- Given a well‑specified data and scientific problem, implement end‑to‑end solutions using appropriate programming languages (Python, R, bash), open‑source tools (Spark, Nextflow, Kubernetes) and cloud vendor‑provided tools (gcloud CLI, Azure)
- Leverage infrastructure as code, cloud ops, Dev Ops, logging/alerting, and other internal tools in delivery of solutions
- Write proper documentation in code and in wikis or other documentation systems
- Write clean code with unit, functional, and integration tests to ensure quality
- Stay up‑to‑date with developments in the open‑source community around data engineering, data science, and related tooling
- Build and maintain modern, cloud‑native systems for standardizing and templating scientific data analysis and data engineering
- Design and manage cloud native infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and Dev Ops environments (GCP and Azure)
- Implement data management and governance practices (data, metadata, versioning, provenance, governance)
- Process and analyse high‑dimensional, large‑scale scientific data, including multi‑modality data
- Manage API semantics, ontology, and standard API architecture
- Implement standard streaming semantics and processing pipelines
- Publish data to file‑based, relational, and other data stores using standard components
- Develop and maintain metadata systems and QA/evaluation tooling
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience with 8+ years of work experience
- Proficiency with the Python programming language
- Experience with public cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Experience with agile software development and Dev Ops‑forward ways of working
- Advanced degree
- Experience building data pipelines with ETL/ELT tools and orchestration frameworks
- Knowledge of data modeling, partitioning, and performance tuning for analytical workloads
- Knowledge of data governance, access controls, and data quality practices
- Prior experience mentoring engineers and collaborating with cross‑functional product teams
Annual base salary range for new hires in this position ranges $157,575 to $262,625 for locations in Cambridge, MA;
Waltham, MA;
Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA. The position offers an annual bonus and eligibility for a share‑based long‑term incentive program. Benefits include health care and other insurance benefits for employee and family, retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
