Technology Engineer – Principal (1044) - Applications Specialty - Citywide (C00098)
Under general direction, this position provides direct ongoing supervision to other Technology Engineers, offers technical leadership, and assumes responsibility for completing major projects. It serves as the lead technical architect for systems or platforms.
Supervision ExercisedThe role may supervise subordinate engineers and technical staff within the assigned work unit or coordinate a team of workers. It may also provide consultation and guidance to technology and non‑technology professionals.
Essential Duties- Conceptualize the need for and plan and ensure maintenance, design, implementation, and enhancement of platform services, APIs, integration services, commercial software packages, internally developed applications, and web services.
- Conceptualize designs and oversee the customization of new features to platform services, APIs, integration services, commercial software packages, internally developed applications and system integrations according to end‑user requests.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of various platform services and applications.
- Oversee the development of new platform capabilities, API services, and applications based on customer requirements and specifications.
- Design and write test plans, ensure performance of applications, design and lead implementation of fixes for problems as they arise, and lead product launches.
- Provide leadership for technical support and lead troubleshooting of problems related to platform services and applications.
- Lead and guide the writing of technical documentation and develop and implement best practices regarding version control and testing.
- Oversee performance of software upgrades and keep track of software licensing.
- Manage vendor relationships, including scoping of platform and application services and review of deliverables.
An associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units (at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely related field).
ExperienceFive (5) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of a system or platform.
SubstitutionOne year of additional experience may be substituted for the required degree.
Additional QualificationsCompletion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.
