Overview

The Information Systems (IS) analyst plays a crucial role in shaping how School of Dentistry (SoD) faculty, staff, and learners experience technology across its clinical, education, and research mission. The IS Analyst utilizes a broad understanding of IT to administer systems, support users, implement systems, and continuously improve operations. The IS analyst collaborates with stakeholders across UCSF and external vendors to implement and maintain solutions.
Ideal candidates will combine technical knowledge with analytical problem‑solving, project coordination skills, and a strong customer‑focused mindset.
- Manages systems and services for a moderate‑size facility with multiple integrated systems. Recommends new hardware, software, and services; performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, modify, and support operating systems, software, databases, utilities, and tools. Applies and manages complex security configurations; administers dentistry specific servers, clients, IoT devices, and SaaS platforms. Ensures compliance with regulatory and UCSF frameworks, maintains data security and policy compliance, administers access to sensitive resources, and analyzes security risks for new systems and business relationships involving P3/P4 data.
- Designs, develops, modifies, debugs, deploys, and evaluates complex software and scripts. Performs complex data analysis, monitors source code control and configuration management, tests software for conformance, and implements release management. Develops scripts and automation to improve operations, assists users with AI agents and workflow integrations, and manages SoD CIT knowledge‑base, Wiki, and Github.
- Identifies, evaluates, and develops complex systems, processes, and procedures; creates complex specifications to meet end‑user requirements; develops user interface designs; gathers, analyzes, prepares, and summarizes business and user needs; documents requirements and revises system logic; creates project plans and detailed functional requirements, use cases, workflow diagrams, user‑facing documentation, and training videos.
- Troubleshoots and resolves complex issues; coordinates workflows of support requests, sets priorities, tracks resolution, and ensures compliance with service level agreements. Provides onsite support to faculty, staff, and learners at multiple locations; leverages ITSM tools such as Service Now to coordinate efforts with non‑Dentistry staff and vendors; conducts root‑cause analysis for complex incidents; initiates support with vendors and manages incidents to resolution.
- Applies advanced concepts to moderately complex and complex projects, including management of structured and unstructured content. Initiates, designs, and communicates with senior personnel regarding database administration studies, summary reports, and background material; resolves procedural and technical issues; provides application consulting for database performance and design; develops operational and systems KPI reports and monitors quality improvement practices.
- Understands and applies industry practices, community standards, and department/unit policies. May serve as technical lead for moderate‑scope projects; trains users; negotiates project plans with stakeholders; keeps abreast of UCSF policies and industry practices related to data privacy and security; maintains self‑training and vendor‑specific training; acts as trainer for specific Dentistry applications or work processes; attends UCSF meetings or trainings as requested on behalf of SoD leadership.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 3+ years of relevant progressive experience.
