Job Description
In the Department of Technology, Office of Cybersecurity, the Disaster Recovery and Resilience Specialist plays a key role in preparing and executing the Technology Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity / Continuity of Operations Plans.
Major Functions- Work with City departments to plan, design, and test resilience solutions for all critical City systems to support the citywide technology resilience program
- Conduct detailed technology risk assessment and business impact analysis
- Review City department completed technology risk and business impact analysis for completeness
- Develop resilience reports that identify gaps and recommendations from technology risk assessment and business impact analysis
- Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for IT disaster recovery technology and resilience solutions
- Collaborate with technical engineering teams to understand evolving architectures to plan, design and test resilience solutions
- Collaborate with technical, non‑technical, and management stakeholders
- Review and provide recommendations for client department technology disaster recovery plans and business continuity / continuity of operations plans
- Develop and maintain business continuity / continuity of operations plans for the department and each division
- Review the completeness of technology recovery plans and procedures for critical technology systems and applications
- Design, plan, coordinate and execute technology resilience test/exercise with recovery teams for all critical technology systems and applications
- Support natural, human‑caused and technology disaster/emergencies during the activation of Emergency Operations Center / Department Operation Center
- Education: An associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units (at least 60 semester or 90 quarter credits with a minimum of 20 semester or 30 quarter credits in one of the fields above or closely related).
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining components of an enterprise network.
- Substitution: Additional experience may be substituted for the required degree on a year‑for‑year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty‑five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester or 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or closely related.
- Possess an industry‑recognized certification in Business Continuity Planning
- Strong applied communication and presentation skills
- Possess 2‑3 years of experience in IT system infrastructure disaster recovery and the business continuity field
- Knowledgeable in current disaster recovery planning methodologies, tools, and technologies
- Experienced in planning and executing technology recovery testing exercises for applications and systems across enterprise data centers and cloud platforms
- Demonstrated proficiency in executing business continuity and disaster recovery programs, managing process improvement initiatives, and applying the full disaster recovery lifecycle

Compensation$156,000-$156,000 per year
