Job Summary
Provide technical support to approximately 400 faculty and staff in the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) who use PC and Macintosh computers. Responsibilities include workstation installation and maintenance, application server installation and maintenance, LAN integrity, hardware and software installations, troubleshooting, system upgrades, Active Directory account management, and support for hospital information systems (APEX). The role also supports and backs up Windows and Unix-based servers and manages remote connection software.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, and maintain new and existing PC and Macintosh workstations and peripherals.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, coordinate repairs with vendors.
- Maintain equipment and software license inventory and network documentation.
- Ensure compliance with UCSF security requirements.
- Install and maintain operating systems and application software (Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Office, Eudora, Now, Sophos, Symantec).
- Configure and manage campus online systems (OLPPS, STOR) and printer drivers.
- Support networking functions, including VPN and wireless connections.
- Configure and maintain servers for backups, file sharing, and applications (including Big Fix).
- Assist with enterprise networking and coordinate with ENS and Medical Center IT support.
- Participate in daily CVRI IT meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum one year of related experience.
- Demonstrated technical skills with Macintosh and PC hardware, servers, peripherals, and software.
- Ability to install, configure, and upgrade desktop systems.
- Knowledge of local and wide area networks and troubleshooting.
- Effective communication skills and ability to train users.
- Experience with server file sharing, application management, and Active Directory.
- Knowledge of remote access (RAS, VPN) programs.
- Experience with OLPPS, STOR, and Retrospect backup software.
- BS degree in computer science or related field.
- Over five years of experience with PCs and Macs.
