The Senior Data & AI Compliance Specialist will be responsible for supporting the operations of the data & AI compliance functions for teams within the Information Technology (IT) department to ensure that data & AI solutions are managed, administered, released, and shared in accordance with UCSF and UCOP security, privacy, and compliance policies and state and federal laws.
Key Functions- Enterprise Data Request Process (EDRP) Operational Support
Provide level 2 support to Enterprise reporting teams to facilitate resolution of issues related to the intake of sensitive data sets. Collaborate with the UCSF IT Service Management team for level 3 technical support. Conduct user acceptance testing of enhancements to the Enterprise Data Request Form and workflow. Generate user documentation and configure metadata in the Service Now EDRP tables.
- Data Sharing Review Concierge Services
Facilitate the intake of data sharing review requests through a concierge model. Meet with UCSF constituents and Contracting Officers to gather required documentation, complete the Safety Net Submission Form, and track follow‑up action items. Provide expertise on PHI, RHI, de‑identified data, and HIPAA de‑identification standards. Coordinate with UCSF SMEs in Export Control, AI Governance, Risk, Faculty, and other subject areas.
- Data Sharing Review Technical Support
Maintain and administer the Safety Net Submission Form and the data sharing review records in SharePoint. Improve the form to reflect institutional requirements and troubleshoot level 3 technical issues. Enhance AI solutions to make compliance documentation available through UCSF AI tools such as Versa.
- Data Analysis of Operational Metrics
Extract and analyze data from the compliance functions to generate metrics for management on an as‑needed basis.
- Maintenance of Data & AI Compliance Web Content
Implement new and update existing Drupal‑based web content to communicate current data & AI compliance requirements and procedures.
- Level 2 Data Compliance, Intake, & AI Support
Provide level 2 support to the UCSF Community for data compliance, data sharing, AI, and service request intake. Advise on policy compliance and coordinate with governance groups such as the UCSF Privacy Office, IT Security & Policy, and Institutional Review Board. Escalate to the Associate Director of Data Compliance when necessary.
- Lead Working Groups for Data Compliance Initiatives
Facilitate and lead cross‑functional working groups that advance data compliance processes and standards.
- Write User and Operational Documentation
Create user guides, process diagrams, and web content about data compliance, AI, data sharing, and intake processes. Tailor documentation to effectively communicate complex information to the target audience.
The Senior Data & AI Compliance Specialist will also serve as a subject matter expert on de‑identification of clinical data from the APeX EHR system and work closely with data services and informatics teams to define and deploy AI and informatics solutions that adhere to data compliance, privacy, and security objectives.
The salary range for this position is $113,800 - $178,300 (Annual Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
