Custom Scope

The position serves as the lead technical expert for financial analytics, performance measurement, and revenue optimization reporting within the ZSFG Vice Dean's Office. The role is creating new analytics capabilities, methodologies, and decision-support frameworks to address complex financial challenges for the Vice Dean’s Office. This is done by applying advanced knowledge of healthcare decision support, operational analytics, and financial performance measurement to lead complex projects that support strategic and operational decision making.

Serves as a technical leader in the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of large and complex datasets derived from clinical, operational, financial, and administrative sources.

Job Description

The position serves as the lead technical expert for financial analytics, performance measurement, and revenue optimization reporting within the ZSFG Vice Dean's Office. The role is creating new analytics capabilities, methodologies, and decision-support frameworks to address complex financial challenges for the Vice Dean’s Office. This is done by applying advanced knowledge of healthcare decision support, operational analytics, and financial performance measurement to lead complex projects that support strategic and operational decision making.

Serves as a technical leader in the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of large and complex datasets derived from clinical, operational, financial, and administrative sources.

Leads the design, development, and continuous improvement of standardized performance reporting processes, dashboards, scorecards, and analytic frameworks that enable leaders to monitor organizational performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Develops and implements data governance, reporting methodologies, and performance measurement standards that ensure the integrity, reliability, and consistency of analytic outputs.

Performs advanced analyses of operational and financial trends, utilization patterns, productivity measures, service performance, and organizational outcomes. Applies internal and external benchmarks, industry standards, and best practices to evaluate performance, identify gaps, and generate actionable insights that support operational excellence and strategic initiatives.

Partners with operational, clinical, and administrative leaders to define business requirements, translate complex questions into analytic approaches, and communicate findings through meaningful reports, visualizations, and presentations. Leads cross-functional projects requiring sophisticated quantitative analysis, predictive modeling, and the integration of data from multiple systems to support evidence-based decision making.

Functions with a high degree of autonomy and serves as a subject matter expert in healthcare analytics, performance measurement, and decision support methodologies. Develops innovative metrics, reporting solutions, and analytical processes that improve organizational visibility, efficiency, and performance across departments and service lines.

Responsibilities
  • 25 Yes Develops and recommends new metrics, systems, and processes to improve the value of decision support activities and efficiencies
  • 50 Yes Performs highly complex queries and may take the lead on producing regular analyses and investigations of performance, utilization, clinical programs, market trends, and financial analyses
  • 15 Yes Leads project teams to develop and optimize tools and sources for modeling data
  • 10 Yes Leads projects and / or serves as an information resource on teams involved with business development planning and the implementation and integration of new programs
Department Overview

The Zuckerberg San Francisco General has been a training hospital for UCSF since it opened in 1872. The first formal Affiliation Agreement between the UCSF School of Medicine and the City/County of San Francisco was implemented on July 1, 1959, to address UCSF’s role in the operation of ZSFG. The current written agreement dates from August 1994.

The original Agreement called for the University to provide sufficient professional and support staff for the departments of Anesthesia, Cardiology, Clinical Laboratories, and Anatomic Pathology, with the City reimbursing the University for expenditures incurred. The Affiliation Agreement provides for an annual budget renegotiation.
