About the Team
Developer Experience is a new team at OpenAI with a singular focus: making developers successful. Our mission is to empower every developer and startup on the planet to build on the OpenAI platform, providing them with the most delightful developer experience to seamlessly integrate AI into their apps and products.
By partnering closely with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams, we place developers at the heart of our OpenAI API initiatives. Across all product lines, we ensure that these powerful tools are used responsibly. This is a key part of OpenAI’s path towards safely deploying broadly beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Safety is more important to us than unfettered growth.
About the Role
We’re looking for somebody to execute and scale high-impact programs for our Developer Community function. As Program Manager, you’ll foster a community of new and existing developers that rely on OpenAI’s technologies. You will help organize meetups worldwide, stoke online engagement around our developer products, and act as an owner of the developer voice within OpenAI. Your work will bridge the gap between our developer community and internal teams, ensuring developers' needs are met and their voices heard.
What you’ll do:
Recognize and Support Our Community: Champion the community of 3 million developers on the OpenAI Platform, celebrating their achievements and contributions.
Foster Online Engagement: Engage with the developer community in online forums, providing support, sharing updates, and fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment.
Event Coordination: Organize meetups in strategic markets and convene local developers, working with community leaders and developers to ensure these events are successful and impactful, including planning content.
Advocate for Developers: Serve as an active owner of the developer voice, gathering feedback and insights from the community to inform our product roadmap and enhance the developer experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, marketing, and go-to-market teams to ensure the needs and voices of developers are integrated into all aspects of our API initiatives.
We’re looking for a blend of:
Community Engagement Experience: 3+ years of experience in fostering and managing communities online and offline, with a passion for engaging with developers and understanding their needs.
Developer Programs Experience: 3+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing developer programs that support and enhance the developer community.
Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts with clarity and nuance.
Event Coordination Skills: Experience in organizing and coordinating events, from small meetups to large conferences, with a focus on creating valuable and memorable experiences for attendees.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams, particularly in product, engineering, and marketing, to advocate for developer needs and drive impactful initiatives.
Empathy for Developers: Deep empathy for the developer journey, with a commitment to enhancing their experience through clear, insightful, and motivational content and engagement.
Passion for Innovation: Creativity and passion for exploring new ways to connect with and empower developers, leveraging various forms of content and engagement strategies.
Ability to Thrive in a Dynamic Environment: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where things are sometimes loosely defined and may have competing priorities or deadlines.
