Kentro is hiring for a Database Administrator to support the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Database Administrator will play a key role in cloud migration and modernization initiatives, supporting the transition of legacy database systems to AWS and Azure environments. Responsibilities will include database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Location: Remote - This position can be performed remotely within the United States and will support Eastern Time working hours.

Compensation Range: The pay range for this position is $150, annually. Kentro determines compensation by evaluating current government contracting and commercial market conditions, as well as the role’s specific requirements. Final salary placement within this range will be based on the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education, certifications, location, and security clearance level, where applicable.

Database Administration & Engineering

• Administer, configure, optimize, and support CFPB databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Amazon RDS, and Redshift.
• Perform database performance tuning, indexing strategies, partitioning, query optimization, storage optimization, and replication configuration.
• Ensure cloud‑native scalability, fault tolerance, and multi‑AZ, multi‑zone architectures for database reliability and automation.

Cloud & Migration Support

• Support migration of legacy and on‑premise database systems to Azure or AWS cloud environments (Azure SQL, RDS, Aurora, Redshift, S3).
• Maintain and enhance AWS Transit Gateways and cloud networking components related to database access and security.
• Execute data migration processes using tools such as AWS DMS, Data Sync, S3 transfer, ETL pipelines, and workflow orchestration platforms (Airflow, Step Functions).

Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Operations

• Implement monitoring for performance, availability, and data health using tools like Cloud Watch, Splunk, and cloud SDKs.
• Lead troubleshooting of database performance issues, connectivity problems, replication failures, and data integrity concerns.
• Provide timely response to operational issues including outages, degradations, and incident support for mission-critical CFPB applications.

Backup, Recovery & DR

• Manage backup/archiving solutions, restore testing, DR planning, and quarterly DR scenario execution ensuring compliance with CFPB guidelines.

Data Governance, Security & Compliance

• Implement access controls, roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing in alignment with CFPB Cybersecurity, Privacy, and NIST/FedRAMP requirements.
• Conduct routine security scanning, vulnerability remediation, patching, and maintenance of database servers.
• Coordinate with Cybersecurity and Privacy teams to ensure compliance with data policies, controls, and SLAs.
