Salary Range: $160,000 – $200,000 per year

Role Summary

The Property & Casualty Underwriter manages new and renewal business workflows, evaluates risks, and ensures adherence to underwriting guidelines.

This role focuses on risk selection, pricing strategy, portfolio management, broker relationship development, and driving underwriting profitability while contributing to business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee workflows for new business and renewals while ensuring compliance with underwriting standards.

  • Evaluate submissions, assess risk, and determine pricing to achieve underwriting profitability.

  • Analyze risk factors such as location, coverage value, usage, safety features, and exposure.

  • Determine coverage limits, premiums, and policy terms for complex accounts.

  • Negotiate terms with brokers and identify cross-sell opportunities.

  • Develop strategies to grow new business and improve portfolio retention.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents.

  • Collaborate with underwriting teams to streamline processes and coordination.

  • Provide premium forecasts, support budgeting, and track performance targets.

  • Improve underwriting processes and support technology adoption.

  • Train new underwriters on guidelines, systems, and best practices.

  • Monitor industry trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Business preferred).

  • Equivalent experience may be considered.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Required:

    State P&C and/or surplus lines licenses.

  • Preferred:

    • CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter)

    • CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor)
