Our San Francisco office is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys handling insurance defense and general civil litigation matters. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can independently manage cases from inception through mediation, arbitration, and trial.
The Litigation Paralegal will conduct legal research, investigate facts, prepare legal documents, manage discovery, coordinate trial preparation, and ensure compliance with court rules and client guidelines. This role requires strong technical proficiency, analytical skills, and hands‑on trial experience.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and review case files from inception through mediation, arbitration, and trial
- Perform e‑filing in State and Federal courts (including PACER)
- Draft and prepare subpoenas for depositions and document production
- Prepare initial discovery (interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions)
- Draft discovery responses, coordinate document productions, and prepare privilege logs
- Monitor and calendar deadlines to ensure timely filings and responses
- Prepare attorneys for depositions and draft deposition summaries/abstracts
- Research, vet, and coordinate with subject matter experts
- Draft and prepare pleadings, briefs, factual chronologies, medical chronologies, agreements, deposition materials, and trial binders
- Organize and index case files and original legal documents
- Investigate facts and gather supporting documentation as requested
- Record and maintain billable time in compliance with client guidelines
- Support trial preparation, including:
- Preparing trial subpoenas
- Organizing trial notebooks
- Creating exhibit and witness lists
- Coordinating witness scheduling and management
- Preparing and manipulating electronic and physical exhibits
- Attend trial as needed and provide on‑site litigation support
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of general civil litigation experience required
- Experience in insurance defense and complex litigation matters such as medical malpractice, construction defect, and products liability strongly preferred
- Prior trial preparation and trial attendance experience required
- 3 days in office, 2 days work‑from‑home
- Technical Proficiency:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Internet research tools
- Lexis Nexis
- PACER
- Relativity
- Sanction, Trial Director, and/or Trial Pad
- Experience with exhibit manipulation software
- State and Federal court e‑filing systems
