Role Overview

The primary role of the Director of Club Services is to fill in at Clubs during leadership gaps due to vacancies, vacations, and/ or other extenuating circumstances, and to manage the growth and development of our Assistant Clubhouse/Site Directors and Art Director group. Programmatically, we expect this position to oversee BGCSF special initiatives and take the lead on cultivating new program innovations and ideas.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week during the school year and summer.

Key Responsibilities Interim Club Leadership (Primary Focus)
  • Serve as acting Club Director during leadership vacancies, supervising up to five program staff
    .
  • Lead weekly team meetings, conduct 1:1s, contribute to performance reviews, and support staff development plans.
  • Oversee daily Club operations, including enrollment, attendance, and program performance.
  • Ensure high-quality programming aligned with BGCSF standards, YPQA, NYOI, and BGCA Blue Print for Youth Impact
  • Manage administrative functions such as payroll, budgeting, reporting, and facility coordination.
  • Maintain a safe environment for members and staff by following BGCSF safety policies and managing day-to-day operational risks.
  • Represent the Club at school, community, and partner meetings.
  • Lead smooth transitions by onboarding and supporting new Club leadership.
When There Is No Club Leadership Vacancy

When all Clubs are fully staffed, this role pivots to strengthening the system as a whole by supporting leaders, building staff capacity, and advancing organizational priorities.

Examples of Work During Non-Vacancy Periods
  • Serving as a short-term leadership support during planned absences (parental leave, medical leave, extended PTO).
  • Leading targeted improvement projects at Clubs that may be struggling with attendance, staff morale, or program quality.
  • Piloting new program models before citywide rollout.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT & PROGRAM INNOVATION
  • Oversee the professional development of BGCSF’s Assistant Clubhouse & Site Director group to include running a weekly meeting; putting together an annual retreat; recommending professional and leadership training opportunities; and coaching and mentoring of staff.
  • Convene the Citywide Art Director group to include monthly citywide meetings; ensuring participation in larger BGCSF & BGCA Art initiatives and events; conducting program observations, and coaching and mentoring of staff.
  • Serve as the liaison between Clubs and Program Services, attending both Team’s weekly meetings.
  • Support the development, cultivation, and implementation of new innovative programs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, Human Services, or a related field or 7 years experience managing youth and staff in a non profit setting.
  • Experience in program and leadership development preferably in an educational or youth-focused setting.
  • Strong understanding of online safety issues affecting youth and familiarity with best practices in digital citizenship.
  • Communicate clearly and compellingly with diverse stakeholders in both oral and written forms.
