Accounting Manager (San Francisco Hybrid)
The Accounting Manager plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy and security of the firm's accounting operations. The manager develops and maintains strong financial processes, ensuring critical deadlines are met and recordkeeping is accurate. The Accounting Manager trains, mentors, and oversees accounting staff, delivers timely and precise financial reports, and provides strategic guidance on operational improvements, policies, and procedural updates to support delivering excellent service to the firm's clients and internally.
This position is a hybrid position requiring regular and predictable attendance with time working in-person in the firm's office averaging a minimum of 2 to 3 days per week.
The Day-to-Day:
- Supervision:
Supervises the Accounting Department staff. Hires, trains, counsels and manages the performance of the department's personnel; prepares annual reviews. Oversees day-to-day operations regarding client billing, client collections, accounts receivable and accounts payable. Provides operational support to the Controller and ensures the department meets financial reporting deadlines and quality standards. Conducts regular meetings with department staff as appropriate. Promotes an environment in the department that fosters productivity, teamwork, quality service, open communication and high morale.
Coordinates personnel issues with the Director of Human Resources. - Policy and Controls:
Maintains, implements and, as necessary, recommends modifications to the accounting protocols to ensure proper business controls and accountability. Establishes firm-wide policies and procedures for "best practices" with regard to accounting processes and risk management processes that interface with accounting activity. Implements the policies of the Firm in a fair and consistent manner. - Education and Training:
Provides education services firm-wide on accounting procedures. Participates in the partner/employee orientation process. Organizes database training, fraud awareness training and other programs for the accounting staff as necessary. - Banking:
Conducts daily banking activity to verify deposits, cash position, effect account transfers and benefit wires. - Financial Operations:
Assists the Controller with bank reconciliations, preparation of journal entries, month-end and year-end close activities, and related financial reporting tasks. - Other:
Provides hands-on assistance and support to the accounting staff positions as necessary. Ensures that accounting programs are running smoothly, troubleshoots problems, arranges for regular software upgrades and participates in planning to integrate these resources in firm-wide automation.
Stays current on legal industry trends through participation in the relevant professional associations, and establishing networks. Other related duties as assigned.

- Education: A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field is required.
- Experience: A minimum of three years supervising accounting operations and staff in a professional services environment is required. Law firm experience is preferred.
