Executive Program Manager

Job Summary

The Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) Executive Program Manager independently oversees core operations and programmatic activities that link science and program initiatives, education, and organizational operations to IGHS's  Strategic Plan. Serving in the IGHS Executive Director's Office (EDO) and reporting to the Deputy Director, the Program Manager is a central connector among scientific leaders, the education team, finance and HR teams, and global collaborators, designing processes, meetings, and reporting structures that keep initiatives aligned and deliver measurable outcomes.

With a strong emphasis on community, connectedness, and execution, this position will facilitate programs and operations that move forward strategic initiatives. The incumbent manages the Scientific Collaborations portfolio, including Innovation Pathways, Pivot Labs, OCR collaborations, and other IGHS Connect offerings such as global partner spotlights, center open houses, and grand rounds, and leads Strategic Plan implementation projects such as the Academic Consultancy Platform and Phase II of Innovation Pathways focused on new science opportunities, collaborations, and bringing new PIs and their teams into IGHS.

The position has full responsibility for program administration under the EDO, exercising a high degree of autonomy and advanced judgment. As the central operations and collaboration hub for the EDO, the Program Manager aligns faculty, staff, and global partners around defined actions, milestones, and reporting structures; ensures that program, scientific, and administrative units deliver timely monthly updates; and contributes to the design of conferences, public forums, and other convenings that elevate IGHS's global impact and advance health equity through locally driven, co-created innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and administer an independent IGHS program portfolio within the Executive Director's Office, with full responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities that link scientific initiatives, education, and operations to the  Strategic Plan.
  • Serve as the primary Strategic Plan implementation coordinator, translating institute-wide priorities into coordinated workplans, timelines, reporting dashboard and metrics, preparing quarterly progress reports with each working group lead.
  • Assume responsibility for IGHS Connect programming, OCR collaborations, Innovation Pathways, and new initiatives for early-stage investigators and new-to-IGHS faculty.
  • Support and facilitate cross-functional processes, standing meetings, and reporting structures that connect scientific leaders, the education team, finance, HR, IRSO, and other administrative units, ensuring alignment and delivery of timely monthly updates to IGHS leadership.
  • Develop and oversee strategies and mechanisms (e.g., seed funding, pilot programs, structured engagement pathways) to broaden IGHS participation among UCSF faculty and to support early-stage investigators engaged in impactful research and innovation.
  • Coordinate program administration, including development of plans that actualize strategic initiatives, financial planning, and resource allocation for the assigned portfolio, exercising a high degree of autonomy and judgment consistent with an Academic Program Management Officer 4.
  • Act as a central liaison to the education team and global collaborators to ensure that programs and initiatives support equitable learning ecosystems and locally driven, co-created innovation aligned with IGHS's mission and strategic goals.
  • Represent IGHS and the EDO on internal and external committees, working groups, and partner‑or‑donor‑facing forums, positioning the institute as a nimble technical partner while maintaining strong operational and fiscal stewardship.
  • Plan and contribute to the design and execution of conferences, public forums, and other convenings that showcase IGHS's work, strengthen collaborations, and communicate progress on strategic priorities and global health impact.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
