The Youth Program Director II provides leadership and strategic oversight for the Richmond District YMCA’s Youth Development Department, with a focus on after school and summer programming. This role drives program growth, retention, and engagement strategies that support a meaningful member and participant experience. In partnership with the Executive Director, the Director manages business operations, youth programs, staff development, and fiscal accountability, with emphasis on safety, service excellence, and family engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement high‑quality youth programs using data-driven goals and performance metrics.
  • Oversee planning, execution, and continuous improvement of after school and summer camp programs.
  • Participate in association-wide youth development teams, work groups, and strategic initiatives.
Fiscal & Operational Oversight
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for assigned departments, in partnership with leadership.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping for compliance, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Align staffing schedules with program needs, ensuring ratio compliance and efficient use of space and resources.
  • Manage grant-funded programs in coordination with grant management staff and the Executive Director.
  • Supervise the Youth Development portfolio for after school and summer programs.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Provide direct support to Program Directors, Site Coordinators, Lead Staff, and Program Leaders.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings to support communication and team culture.
  • Maintain approachability and sound judgment during periods of change or increased workload.
  • Implement a positive behavior management framework aligned with district and state guidelines.
  • Ensure safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environments for all youth.
Family & Community Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with families, school administrators, partners, and funders.
  • Support district-led orientations, workshops, and engagement events.
  • Address family concerns promptly and elevate issues as needed.
Community & Philanthropy
  • Lead Youth Development contributions to the Annual Community Campaign in partnership with the Senior Director of Engagement.
  • Cultivate partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and schools.
  • Represent the YMCA at community and networking events to elevate visibility and engagement.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in leadership, customer service, or operations
  • 2+ years supervisory experience, preferably in youth programs
  • 3+ years’ experience in youth programming
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations and community stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn internal systems
  • Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Preferred
  • Director-level experience in youth program operations
  • 2+ years leading or designing youth programs
  • Bi‑lingual (Chinese or Spanish)
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) or Adobe tools.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Work is performed in a combination of office, school‑site, and indoor/outdoor program environments.
  • Duties may require travel between multiple program locations within the district.
  • Noise levels vary by setting and may be moderate to high during youth activities.
  • The role requires frequent interaction with youth, families, staff, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer or conducting administrative tasks.
  • Ability to move throughout program sites, including standing, walking, bending, and reaching as needed to support youth activities and staff.
  • Occasionally required to lift, move, or carry supplies or equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to participate in or supervise outdoor activities and events in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency or safety‑related situations.
