SFAPD dedicates endless energy toward enhancing public safety, seeking victim restoration and accountability, providing structured and evidence-based supervision, and pretrial services all on the behalf of the Superior Court of San Francisco.
The ideal candidate for a Pretrial Services Division Manager holds a bachelor’s degree in the behavioral services, social sciences, social work, criminal justice, or a related field, combined with 3+ years of experience in pretrial services, diversion, and/or monitoring, human services, or law enforcement, typically including supervisory experience. They must demonstrate strong leadership, and an ability to lead a team to support a high need population in a high-pressure, fast-paced, environment.
The ideal candidate must have a strong knowledge of criminal court justice procedures, accessing, retrieving, and interpreting criminal records, bail statutes, related legislation, risk assessment tools, and proficiency in staff management and report writing; and excellent verbal and written skills for interacting with judges, attorneys, and law enforcement. They must have strong community presence, commitment, and relationships.
Under administrative direction, the Pretrial Division Manager ís a leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations, strategic planning, and staff of SF Adult Probation Department’s pretrial services division. This role develops, implements, and oversees pretrial Own Recognizance (OR) Release, Supervised Pretrial Release, and Conditional Release Programs. Co‑lead/facilitates the development, management, and oversight of violence reduction strategies and Reentry services. This role ensures that individuals released on bond adhere to court‑ordered conditions, thereby aiding in the reduction of jail populations while maintaining public safety.
The Pretrial Division Manager makes decisions which impact the daily operations and implementation of established procedures and policies of the pretrial services division and solve problems requiring analyses of issues that may result in deviations from routine processes, new technology and/or additional resources.

- Manages the Pretrial Services Division, including staff supervision, training, performance evaluations, and implementing department policies.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates the activities of personnel, and coordinates and monitors the work of consultants and contractors working for the department.
- Routinely lead, participate, and represent SFAPD in the community in partner meetings, stakeholder meetings, and with community‑based organizations.
- Establish goals, objectives, and metrics for utilization of electronic and alcohol monitoring.
- Ensure all staff are routinely trained and updated on all legal updates, and create, maintain, and implement all policy and procedures.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with other agency divisions and units.
- Coordinates budget preparation, monitors expenditures and financial reporting for the Division; prepares reports, memoranda, and correspondence; and maintains statistical records.
- Review and recommend modifications to training curriculum to enhance effectiveness for delivery of evidence‑based services.
