SFAPD dedicates endless energy toward enhancing public safety, seeking victim restoration and accountability, providing structured and evidence-based supervision, all on the behalf of the Superior Court of San Francisco.
Under the administrative direction of the Deputy Director of Prevention and Restorative Services, this project provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, program development, and systems coordination for the Reentry Division of the San Francisco Adult Probation Department (SFAPD). The project leads complex Citywide reentry initiatives, develops and implements new programs and service-delivery models, strengthens community and interagency partnerships, and ensures high-quality operations supporting justice-involved individuals.
The project oversees key functional areas including Reentry Services, Women’s Gender Responsive Services, and the Reentry Council, while supporting the integration of pretrial services and other emerging departmental priorities. The position requires extensive leadership and managerial expertise, advanced program design and implementation skills, and the ability to resolve complex operational, personnel, policy, and stakeholder issues requiring significant independent judgment.
The project maintains an active presence in the community and works closely with City departments, justice-system partners, community-based organizations, policymakers, and other stakeholders. It also monitors and assesses legislative, regulatory, and policy developments affecting probation, reentry, pretrial services, and justice-involved populations and provides recommendations regarding departmental impacts and implementation.
Working non-traditional hours, that might include evening and weekends.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Manages complex programs, operational activities, and strategic projects, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities, timelines, performance expectations, and measurable outcomes.
- Develops, designs, and implements new programs and initiatives in response to emerging departmental, legislative, operational, and community needs, including establishing program models, implementation strategies, performance measures, and accountability structures.
- Provides leadership and managerial oversight to staff; supervises, trains, coaches, and evaluates personnel; coordinates consultants and contractors; and resolves complex personnel, operational, and programmatic issues.
- Works with executive leadership, managers, and staff to develop and implement goals, policies, procedures, and strategies for the Reentry Division and related departmental operations.
- Manages highly sensitive and confidential records and/or information related to justice-involved individuals, departmental operations, personnel, programs, and partner agencies, ensuring appropriate access, handling, disclosure, and safeguarding in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and confidentiality requirements.
