The seamster / seamstress is a skilled worker who operates sewing machines in a production setting. Their primary function is to efficiently sew large quantities of garments, apparel, or components, amongst others.
Key responsibilities- Production and Sewing: Operate industrial sewing machines for high‑speed, durable operations including single‑needle stitching, serging, or attaching components. Take measurements, create patterns, sew and alter garments, uniforms, tablecloths, and packaging material. Work with varied fabrics, manage inventory and order supplies, provide excellent internal customer service, and fit garments on customers.
- Meeting Production Requirements: Work in a fast‑paced environment, using dexterity and focus to consistently produce quality work.
- Quality Control: Inspect work for defects or inconsistencies, such as uneven seams, missed stitches, or material flaws, and report issues to prevent defective items from moving forward.
- Maintain Quality Standards: Ensure finished products meet established quality standards and identify and report any issues.
- Machine Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks such as changing needles, oiling moving parts, and identifying minor problems that need further attention.
- Additional Responsibilities: Maintain a clean and organized workspace and follow strict safety procedures.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years experience working as a seamstress or tailor in volume environments.
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
- Ability to work under time constraints, independently and efficiently.
- Ability to safely use different types of sewing machines.
- Good hand‑eye coordination.
- Effective communication skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- In‑depth knowledge of best practices and methods.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Aptitude for multi‑tasking.
- Must be able to work cooperatively and efficiently in a team.
- Ability to stand and sit for longer periods of time.
- Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 10–15 lbs, occasionally up to 30 lbs, rarely up to 50 lbs (with assistance).

This is a part‑time / hourly position located in South San Francisco. Attendance is required per business needs, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and evenings, with rotating scheduling.
