Job Description & How to Apply Below
CNC Machinist
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to program, set up, and operate precision milling and turning equipment to produce high-quality components. The ideal candidate will translate engineering drawings and 3D models into reliable machining processes using CAM tools (Fusion 360 preferred), edit and optimize G-Code, and perform accurate setups on 3-axis and 5-axis machines (including Haas). This role is responsible for meeting production schedules, maintaining tight tolerances using GD&T principles, and verifying parts with manual gauges and CMM inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Program and edit CNC programs using CAM (Fusion 360) and directly on the machine as required.
- Set up and operate 3-axis and 5-axis milling centers and CNC lathes (Haas experience preferred) to perform milling and turning operations.
- Perform machine setups including tool selection, fixturing, offsets, tool height and wear offsets, and first-article verification.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models (Solid Works/OnShape), and apply GD&T to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric tolerances.
- Produce, inspect, and document parts using hand tools, micrometers, calipers, and CMM; complete inspection reports and maintain traceability.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve part quality and cycle times.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop fixturing, optimize toolpaths, and suggest design-for-manufacturing improvements.
- Maintain machine cleanliness, perform routine preventative maintenance, and log machine usage and tool life.
- Follow established safety procedures and maintain a safe, organized work area.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, assist in training junior machinists, and help standardize setup and programming practices.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience with milling and turning in a production or job-shop environment.
- Proficient with CAM systems, especially Fusion 360; ability to generate and edit toolpaths and post-process G-Code.
- Demonstrated experience with 3-axis and 5-axis machining and multi-axis toolpath strategies.
- Experience operating Haas controls and other common CNC platforms; strong knowledge of G-Code and conversational programming.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and the ability to interpret tolerances on engineering drawings.
- Experience using CMMs for part verification and familiarity with inspection best practices.
- Comfortable working with CAD models in Solid Works and OnShape.
- Strong setup skills including fixturing, tool selection, offsets, and first-article inspection.
- Good mechanical aptitude, math skills, and attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or related field preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with appropriate PPE.
