Volunteer Opportunities Available with Alternative Family Services About Alternative Family Services
Alternative Family Services is a Foster Family, Adoption and Mental Health Agency that has been serving abused and neglected children in our community since 1973. Our mission is to support vulnerable children and families in need of stability, safety, and well‑being in communities. We provide a wide range of foster, adoption, mental health and transition‑aged youth services in English and Spanish.
We have eight locations throughout the Bay Area and 200 employees. We celebrate diversity, equal opportunity, and excellence.
Join our team as an AFS HEART Society Ambassador! Collaborating with the Director of Resource Development, our HEART Society Volunteers will help increase community engagement and awareness of AFS programs, fundraising campaigns and initiatives to support children, teens, and young adults in foster care.
Activities and Community Engagement- Organize and participate in fundraising events
- Volunteer in various AFS activities
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that benefit foster youth and families
- Host educational and awareness‑building events
- Support AFS campaigns, such as Foster Joy, through outreach and promotion
- Attend key fundraising events and quarterly meetings to plan and coordinate activities
HEART, or Honesty, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion Appreciation, Respect and Teamwork and Support speaks to AFS’ core values and the work we do supporting vulnerable children and families in need of stability, safety, and well‑being. If you are looking for a sense of community join us!
We are looking for Ambassadors who have:
- An interest in nonprofits
- Can commitment to supporting the mission and values of Alternative Family Services (AFS)
- A willingness to engage in volunteer and promotion activities, fundraising, and advocacy
- The ability to dedicate time and resources (approximately 3‑5 hours a month) to support the HEART Society initiatives
- Individuals passionate about foster care, adoption, mental health, social justice, and family support services
- Individuals passionate about supporting vulnerable children and families and their local communities
Some volunteer opportunities require Ambassadors to volunteer in the community (i.e. supporting at events). Thus, requires possession of a valid CA driver’s license and valid automobile insurance with his/her name on the verification card as an insured driver on the policy at all times.
