Volunteer Services Operations CoordinatorThe Volunteer Services Operations Coordinator is a new position created to support the Food Bank's expanding volunteer engagement efforts with external partners. A portion of this role will support the Cal Fresh Community Works Program (CCWP), the Food Bank's response to evolving Cal Fresh work requirements. This role will also collaborate with Food Bank teams who support external partners via the volunteer program at the Food Bank as we are uniquely positioned to serve as a key community resource through one of the largest volunteer programs in San Francisco and Marin.
Who We Are:The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin counties. We envision a community free of the root causes of hunger, where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support.
Together with more than 250+ community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through a coordinated network of neighborhood food pantries, Cal Fresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to provide food for people facing hunger today while working to end the hunger of tomorrow. This fiscal year, we are serving 42,000 households per week.

- Manage referral process and ongoing placements from various county agencies
- Act as primary liaison for internal Community Partnerships team
- Lead volunteer orientation and onboarding
- Accurately track hours
- Upload volunteer hours weekly to the county
- Report on aggregate hours/number of participants supported
- Lead Volunteer Orientation & Onboarding & Retention for CCWP
- Create schedule for volunteer orientations, arranging for language accessibility
- Confirm RSVPs with volunteers/county agencies
- Conduct participant orientation
- Create volunteer schedule with each volunteer and schedule in volunteer portal
- Send bi-weekly/monthly email updates to participants, including a regular satisfaction survey
- Coordinate with Community Engagement Team
- Ensure smooth operation between community and service volunteers
- Properly set up volunteer schedules
- Accurately track hours
- Report on aggregate hours and number of participants who successfully retain benefits
- Give tours/manage volunteer check in as needed
- Lead volunteer activity as needed
- Lead evaluation of programming
- Document and refine program processes and procedures
- Coordinate with Operations and Programs Staff
- Check in with project leaders and site managers about volunteer performance
- Elevate any performance issues to Associate Director of Community Engagement
- Coordinate with Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy and Voice Team (SPAV)
- Submit referrals for Cal Fresh Ambassador Program
- Submit referrals for Peer Navigator Program
- Track and report on any volunteer hours from SPAV roles
- Coordinate with County Agencies for referred community service programs
- Verify participant information and requirements and provide volunteer and program orientation
- Track and ensure service hours are accurately captured in SFMFB volunteer platform and on county required paperwork
- Complete and sign required county paperwork, and when necessary, provide letter of verification
- Maintain accurate records and update participant account to ensure compliance with program requirements
- Coordinate with Community Partnerships Team
- Partner with community partnerships team to recruit volunteers for partners
- Post volunteer opportunities for partner agencies as requested
- Request attendance reports from partner agencies where volunteers have been referred
- Attend Community Partnerships Team meetings as needed
- 1-2 years Direct Service Experience or 1-2 years customer service experience
- Experience working with volunteers
- Spanish or Cantonese language capacity preferred
- Experience engaging with communities experiencing food insecurity, poverty, or social injustice
- Excellent conflict resolution, de-escalation, and active listening skills
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Comfortable with public speaking & leading tours
