Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology Position Summary
The Community Outreach Program (COP), working within the Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement (ORE) Core of the UCSF Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC), advances community-engaged education and brain health-promoting activities that seek to improve brain health literacy, promote community brain health, and foster dementia awareness among diverse populations. Through this work, we also seek to strengthen relationships between the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center and the communities we serve in ways that promote referrals to our clinic and research programs from underserved and underrepresented communities.
The Academic Coordinator will play a central role in developing, implementing, coordinating, and sustaining community engagement, educational programming, and public-facing communications. The primary purpose of this appointment is to translate current scientific knowledge about brain health, healthy aging, dementia, and related topics into accessible, culturally responsive educational programs and resources for community audiences. The Academic Coordinator will also help develop and maintain a new public-facing website for the Community Outreach Program and lead the Program’s social media communications to expand the reach and accessibility of its educational and outreach activities.
Reporting to Serggio Lanata, MD, the Academic Coordinator will collaborate with faculty, trainees, staff, community organizations, healthcare partners, cultural institutions, and public agencies to develop educational initiatives, strengthen community partnerships, coordinate outreach activities, and support effective communication between UCSF and diverse communities through online and printed materials. The incumbent will coordinate public-facing digital communications, including website content and social media, and will use routine program feedback and quality-improvement processes to strengthen programming.
The incumbent will not design, conduct, or participate in research as part of this position.
The Academic Coordinator will help establish the Community Outreach Program as a sustainable model for community education, partnership development, science communication, and public service that advances the educational and community engagement missions of the UCSF Fein Memory and Aging Center and the UCSF Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
Academic MissionThe Community Outreach Program serves as the Fein Memory and Aging Center’s platform for translating advances in dementia and brain health research into meaningful partnerships with diverse communities. Working closely with the Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core of the UCSF Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, the Program promotes equitable access to brain health education while strengthening community participation in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia research and clinical care.
The Community Outreach Program functions as a living laboratory for community-engaged research, in which educational initiatives are systematically designed, implemented, evaluated, and refined to generate evidence that advances the science of dementia education, implementation, science communication, and equitable community engagement.
The Academic Coordinator will strengthen this mission by developing innovative educational programs, cultivating sustained community partnerships, coordinating outreach activities, and supporting the dissemination of current scientific knowledge to public audiences through in-person programming and digital communications. The Academic Coordinator will help develop the Community Outreach Program’s new website and lead its social media communications. Programming and communications will be refined through routine operational feedback, community input, and continuous quality-improvement activities.
