Overview

Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

Description

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20-bed high acuity unit serving the immediate Bay area community and beyond. The PICU provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The PICU serves both infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions, often requiring specialty care or recovering from surgery. The most common diagnoses seen in the PICU include conditions requiring neurological intervention, complications from respiratory conditions, and management of oncological and transplant related conditions.

The PICU team consists of roughly 100+ nurses, unit support staff including Patient Care Assistants and Unit Secretaries and collaborates with our provider team and crucial ancillary departments to serve a highly critical patient population.

Job Summary:

Required Qualifications
  • Three years progressive nursing leadership experience with patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies. Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, critical events and ability to solve problems with critical thinking skills.
  • Two years recent RN experience in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit including charge nurse responsibilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
  • Bachelor s Degree in Nursing
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
  • Strong leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology, critical care unit operations and patient care workflows and processes
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master s Degree preferred.
License/Certification
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association BLS Certification
  • Active American Heart Association PALS Certification
