Job DescriptionUnder general medical and nursing direction, you will perform pediatric clinical nursing duties in hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. As a core member of a multidisciplinary clinical team, you will manage complex pediatric patient care from birth to age 17, provide consultation, education, and advanced practice support to registered nurses, public health nurses, and other clinical staff to enhance care quality, safety, and outcomes for pediatric populations.
Responsibilities- Evaluate individual nursing care needs of selected patients, determine appropriate nursing care, design a nursing care program, and work with staff to implement it.
- Participate in formulation of discharge plans and post‑discharge nursing care.
- Provide direct nursing care to patients requiring in‑depth or specialized nursing care, including leading individual and group therapy sessions in the psychiatric specialty.
- Offer professional advice and consultation to registered and public health nurses; define nursing objectives and principles and assist in professional skill development.
- Contribute to the development of standards, policies, and procedures for the specialized nursing plan.
- Facilitate referrals of patients and families to appropriate professional personnel and community resources.
- Participate in clinical investigations and studies in the nursing specialty.
- Conduct ongoing comprehensive needs studies for nursing and health care services in the community and help design implementation plans.
- Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
- Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Valid Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certificate issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Note: Applicants who meet all other qualifications and hold an active RN license from another state may apply but must obtain a valid California RN license prior to appointment. Similarly, CNS certification must be obtained prior to appointment.
Desirable Qualifications- Two (2) years of bedside nursing experience in pediatrics.
- Two (2) years of experience within the last three (3) years in an acute care Pediatric ICU or Pediatric ED.
- Certificate in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Training and Experience Evaluation (Weight: 100%) measures knowledge, skills, and abilities related to social‑psychological stress, multidisciplinary teamwork, team motivation, nursing technique design, and professional development.
- Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department before final hiring decisions.
- Eligibility list based on civil service examination results; the list remains valid for six months and may be extended with approval.
