Overview
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Lung Transplant seeks a full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Advanced Lung Disease Service (ALDS). UCSF is ranked #8 nationally in pulmonology and has maintained higher‑than‑expected survival rates for post‑lung transplant recipients for more than 13 consecutive years.
CompensationSalary range: $105.50–$136.83 per hour.
Responsibilities- Coordinate patient care in the hospital setting.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, APPs, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Conduct histories and physicals, plan pre‑operative care, and coordinate with anesthesia/PMD as applicable.
- Respond to changes in patient status and provide necessary prescriptions or referrals as permitted under standardized procedures.
- Deliver home health services, DMV evaluations, and other consults; document findings and generate required medical orders.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
- Provide clinical advice to healthcare professionals, patients, and families as needed.
- Participate in shared‑visit models and discuss patient management with attending staff.
- Complete EHR documentation, including medication orders, lab orders, radiographic studies, and specialist referrals.
- Assist in developing protocols to improve clinical efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families via in‑person, telephone, or electronic modalities.
- Ensure appropriate clinical coverage is arranged in the event of absence.
- Adhere to all UCSF Health policies regarding HIPAA, communication, privacy, and code of conduct.
- Attend mandatory APP onboarding sessions (five 2‑hour sessions over 12 months).
- One year of experience as a nurse practitioner with pulmonary and/or critical care experience, or 3‑6 months as a UCSF APP in pulmonary/transplant/MCS/critical care, or two years of critical care nursing experience.
- Flexibility to work at all UCSF Health locations and accommodate varying schedules.
- Four years of experience as a nurse practitioner with pulmonary and/or critical care experience.
- Two years of experience as a UCSF nurse or APP with pulmonary and/or critical care experience.
- California driver’s license (CDL) if required for the position.
- Current national certification from an accepted agency, provided by the first day of work.
- Accepted certifications for this adult inpatient position: ACNP‑BC, AGACNP‑BC, ACNPC‑AG, ACNPC.
- Active RN, NP, and furnishing license in California.
- Graduate master's degree program completed as a nurse practitioner.
- DEA registration with schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address.
- Enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by the first clinical day; CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications.
- State regulation requires a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than six months of NP experience will be hired as Nurse Practitioner 1.
