Overview

The Adult Infusion Centers n and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non‑oncology infusion needs of patients  treatments include, but are not limited to, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes, iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 100 chairs/beds and provide both research and standard‑of‑care infusions.

The infusion centers are staffed by nurses, nurse practitioners, medical assistants and practice coordinators.

The Outpatient Infusion Clinical Nurse II delivers direct patient care to an assigned adult infusion outpatient population. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in‑depth knowledge of the cancer and non‑cancer disease processes, major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to national patient safety goals set forth by regulatory requirements.

The nurse is recognized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care in the outpatient infusion setting, including administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusion therapy, hydration, and other infusion therapies; monitor patient status and manage symptoms; educate patients and families; coordinate interdisciplinary care; maintain charting accuracy; uphold national patient safety goals; serve as a clinical resource; and support unit advancement and organizational goals.

Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of recent RN adult clinical oncology nursing experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent outpatient infusion experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy within the last 3 years.
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, and related therapies.
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position.
  • Demonstrated evidence of basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of complex patients such as oncology with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Observational skills and the ability to set priorities; ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure.
  • Ability to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective skills in applying hospital standards in the area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a style that promotes leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; demonstrated leadership experience that supports teamwork, professionalism, high‑quality patient experience and evidence‑based clinical practice.
  • Ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff; contribution to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; positive morale and constructive conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; ongoing commitment to lifelong learning in nursing.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) or more years of adult oncology nursing experience.
  • OCN certification or other relevant specialty certification.
  • Membership in professional organizations.
Licensure/Certification s
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy ONS/ONCC provider card.
