Position: Nurse Practitoner 2, Per Diem

Join our amazing team of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners at UCSF Health, where you will serve patients directly within the Emergency Department and the inpatient setting!

The psychiatric nurse practitioners will be performing evaluations, placing and releasing legal holds, serving in both consultative and direct patient care roles. Evaluating the need for inpatient hospitalization and assisting with dispositioning and after‑care needs.

Responsibilities
  • Function as appropriate to their "scope of practice"; includes management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures. Familiarity with state statute for their licenses is necessary.
  • Obtain necessary privileges via the APP and collaborating physician through the OMAG website during credentialing.
  • Use CIDP approved privileges, which are unique per individual and may not encompass all privileges.
  • Provide patient care to age groups aligned with educational preparation across all UCSF Health licensed settings and affiliates, and mentor new APPs and engage with APP students.
  • Hold responsibility for standards of care for their specified patient population and demonstrate self‑direction and accountability to quality of care and role development across UCSF Health locations and affiliates.
  • Be credentialed through OMAG and privileged via CIDP before first working day; non‑compliance may lead to leave of absence or suspension of privileges.
  • Be accountable to, evaluated by, and receive feedback from supervising/collaborating physicians, the Administrative Practice Manager, and other APPs via OPPE and performance reviews.
  • Familiarize with expected productivity metrics based on workflow phenotypes.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing‑approved or verified school of nursing with a master's degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).
  • One (1) year of clinical experience as an NP in the same specialty and setting.
  • Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within two months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner experience in an Emergency Medicine setting, urgent care, or crisis stabilization unit.
License/Certifications
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction.
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction.
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges.
  • National board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role (PMHNP‑BC).
  • California Driver License (if required for position).
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Additional required AHA certifications:
    None (additional to BLS).
  • Additional required certifications (e.g., ENLS):
    None.
Salary Information

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on experience and internal equity. For union‑represented positions, placement will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement.
