Responsibilities
  • Dispense resident’s medications, administer prescribed treatments, and maintain medication documentation and control.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of safety procedures and precautions regarding the resident.
  • Identify any side effects or problems, and report refusals to Supervisor and physician.
  • Maintain thorough documents.
  • Participate in medication audits.
  • Prepare and pass medication for residents as ordered by a physician, reporting any medication errors, side effects or problems to supervisor or physician.
  • Document administration or refusal of medication in required format and style.
  • Maintain documentation and communication log in accordance with required procedures, using electronic system when appropriate.
  • Reorder meds as needed, following appropriate protocols.
  • Follow medication policies and procedures: responsible for the delivery, ordering, re-ordering, storage, documentation and destruction of medications.
  • Ensure that medication is available when needed through on time refills. Order labs as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Cleared Criminal Record clearance through the Department of Social Services prior to presence in the community.
  • Health screening and TB test results not older than 6 months.
  • Current First Aid Training and Certifications per Title 22.
  • Working knowledge of computers and typing, sufficient enough to be successful with computerized Point of Care and other systems.
  • 6 months or more in long term care, home care or related field preferred.
  • Successful completion of Med Tech Training program.
  • Minimum of six months experience in long term care, home care, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of computers and keyboarding in order to be successful with electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and the ability to successfully work in a multi-cultural environment.
