The Outpatient Pulmonary Clinical Nurse II, under the supervision of the Clinical Manager and Practice Manager, delivers direct patient care to adult pulmonary and ILD outpatient populations across multiple sub‑specialties. The nurse is experienced, highly skilled, and possesses an in‑depth knowledge of pulmonary disease processes, treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. Using the pulmonary nursing society standards and the nursing process, the nurse conducts assessments, plans, implements, and evaluates individualized care while maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
The position involves interdisciplinary collaboration, adherence to national patient safety goals, and active engagement as a clinical resource to advance unit and organizational objectives.
Key responsibilities include maintaining safe operations, managing patient care within the UC San Francisco Pulmonary Center medical team, and ensuring compliance with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.
Responsibilities- Conduct patient assessments, identifying needs and responses to medical regimens through observation and documentation of signs, symptoms, and emotional state.
- Work cooperatively with the healthcare team to develop short‑ and long‑term goals for patient care, considering physical, emotional, and cultural factors.
- Provide individualized nursing care, considering patients’ growth and developmental needs, and demonstrate an understanding of age‑specific care requirements.
- Prepare and instruct patients on specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, perform treatments, and maintain safe practice with equipment.
- Evaluate and document patients’ responses to nursing care, ensuring an understanding of cognitive, physical, and emotional maturation processes.
- Administer medication, maintain pharmacology knowledge, and comply with infection control and safety policies.
- Respond appropriately in emergencies, demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.
- Maintain open communication with the healthcare team, ensuring continuity of care for patients and families.
- Organize activities based on patient needs, adjusting clinical support to reflect practice priorities.
- Foster positive public relations, demonstrating effective communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a supportive manner.
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in an outpatient medical specialty setting (within the past 2 years).
- Training and experience with electronic health record systems.
- Flexibility to orient with various operational needs.
- Ability to work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- 1–2 years of experience working with EPIC/APEX platform.
- Bilingual capability strongly preferred.
- Experience in pulmonary care.
- Previous experience administering biologics and teaching airway clearance.
- High level of interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- California Registered Nurse License
- Active BLS Certification
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range depends on factors including your work experience and internal equity within the classification positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
