- Know the location and disposition of all residents (under direct care) at all times.
- Ensure each resident looks clean and presentable throughout the day.
- Assist with dressing, applying makeup, combing hair, cleaning eyeglasses, and assisting with other personal grooming tasks as needed.
- Keep residents’ rooms in proper order throughout the day, including tidying rooms, making beds and putting clothes away.
- Assist residents by providing for their comfort, safety and enjoyment.
- Keep any internal charts current; know each resident’s needs and report all observed physical and emotional changes to the shift manager or RCC (Resident Care Coordinator) or Administrator by the end of the shift. Document changes in the change‑over notes unless immediate intervention is needed.
- Attend periodic staff meetings and in‑service training and mandatory meetings as required.
- Read, follow and sign any care plans and posted messages and/or updates during each shift.
- Observe Resident’s Rights, as posted within the facility.
- Promptly respond to resident calls for assistance.
- In emergency situations, assist residents according to the Emergency Plan of the facility.
- Assist with first aid as directed.
- Maintain a cooperative and cheerful attitude when relating to residents or their guests.
- Assist residents at mealtimes as directed or needed.
- Assist residents with personal hygiene needs as needed throughout the shift.
- Assist residents with daily recreational activities, including crafts, games, music, exercise and encourage participation.
- Follow any written work schedules and service schedules.
- Ensure residents in group are all receiving quality care.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed properly and in a timely manner.
- Follow the schedule.
- Perform other duties assigned.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Attention to detail and safety.
- Respect for client dignity and privacy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician, completed within seven (7) days after hire. Employees who do not complete within this time may be placed on suspension until completion.
- Fingerprints and criminal conviction affidavit submitted for a criminal record review. Approval must be obtained to retain employment.
- All employees must keep their first‑aid certification current.
- Skill in compassionately caring for elderly, knowledge of proper caregiving techniques and the ability to care for several residents at one time.
- Organizational skills: must maintain order and efficiency in performing job duties and maintain a constant pace.
- Mental: must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure, and make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulations.
- High School diploma or equivalent, required.
- At least some prior experience in caring.
- At least 18 years or older, required.
- Certified Nurse Assistant and/or Home Health Aide Certificate, preferred.
Spend time bending, twisting or lifting up to 50 pounds, keeping or regaining balance, making repetitive motions, standing, using hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools, walking and running.
