Job Function Summary

Involves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers.

Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations. (Note, when primary focus is clinical operations, see Ambulatory Administration job function.)

Manages the delivery of ambulatory patient care, which typically includes nursing, and may include laboratory, radiology, dental, etc. Facilitates the flow of patient care activities; may also participate in practice or center management operations.

• 15%:
  Manages the patient care delivery system to assure quality care, patient safety, standard work, and compliance with internal policy, external regulations, and accepted practices across the continuum of care. Allocates environmental, technical, and staffing resources. May also manage the fiscal and administrative operations.
• 10%:
  Develops staff in collaborative decision making and shared governance to ensure a shared voice in clinical care practice, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved clinical and patient care outcomes.
• 10%:
  Manages patient care in a cost-effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization. Plans and is accountable for the annual operative and capital budget for areas of responsibility. Monitors expenditures and the annual budget for patient care services and/or clinic operations.
• 15%:
  Responsible for employee recruitment, performance evaluation, progressive discipline and staff development. Develops a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and timely achievement of objectives. Works with clinical educators and leadership to evaluate core competencies in nursing and other clinical care for the unit.
• 5%:
  Works collaboratively with Labor & Employee Relations on bargaining unit issues and contract negotiations at the local level. Facilitates and oversees resolution of human resources, labor relations, and employee safety and risk management issues.
• 10%:
  Keeps abreast of and implement new or changing patient care standards of practice, scope of practice, competency development and assessment, policies and procedures. Develops and oversees implementation of new programs. Collaborates with physicians and develops proposals for improvements to clinic services, policies, or procedures.
• 10%:
  Collaborates and provides input on marketing, facilities, and fiscal planning. Drafts business plans to introduce quality improvements to clinical service delivery and patient safety initiatives in accordance with best practices. Represents clinics on taskforces or committees.
• 20%:
  Determines staffing needs and plans. Monitors performance of clinic or center services. Coordinates activities with other clinics, centers, units, and/or departments in regard to patient care.
• 5%:
  Other duties as assigned.

• At least 5 years of clinical experience in nursing with 2 of those years in a dermatology setting.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing supervisory experience in an outpatient clinic familiar with Dermatology diseases.
• Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaboartive decision making. Able to convey information with authority, handle highly sensitive matters, and interact with high level contacts from other departments/organizations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to explain technical specialty concepts thoroughly.
• Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.
