IQC Technician
Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Technician
About the RoleAs an Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Technician, you’ll serve as the critical first line of defense for the flight hardware that goes to space. You will be responsible for executing robust quality control inspections on all custom components, raw materials, and supplier sub‑assemblies before they enter our production line. You will partner closely with a cross‑functional team of technicians and engineers who care deeply about quality, precision, and mission success.
This role is well‑suited for someone who is exceptionally detail‑oriented, methodical, and possesses a strong track record of interpreting technical drawings to detect minor hardware anomalies. You will operate in a dynamic lab environment where production moves quickly and the high testing standards you enforce directly support the client’s mission to deliver reliable imaging data from space.
Impact You’ll Own- Perform rigorous physical, dimensional, and visual inspections of incoming components against engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM)
- Utilize precision metrology equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and digital inspection microscopes) to verify that parts meet strict aerospace tolerances.
- Review supplier manufacturing data packs
, material certifications, and compliance paperwork to maintain 100% component traceability. - Identify and report mechanical or electrical anomalies
, initiating detailed Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) to instantly flag failing hardware. - Manage non‑conforming materials through the Material Review Board (MRB) process to ensure failed hardware is safely quarantined, tracked, and dispositioned (scrap, rework, or return to vendor).
- Maintain digital inspection guides and logs
, ensuring all incoming metrics and quality trends are accurately entered into company databases. - Interface between manufacturing technicians and supply chain engineers to establish an effective feedback loop regarding component defects and supplier performance.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and ESD‑safe IQC workspace
, consistently enforcing 5S methodology and laboratory safety regulations.
- 4+ years of hands‑on experience in quality control, incoming inspection, or assembly within precision hardware, manufacturing, or aerospace environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or technical field (or equivalent practical aerospace experience).
- Deep understanding of Bills of Materials (BOM), including part numbering structures, hardware serialization, and drawing revision tracking.
- Fluency in reading technical documentation
, including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles. - Proven skills with precision measurement gear and a proactive approach to troubleshooting structural or cosmetic hardware issues.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
, with a steady, methodical approach to handling massive incoming component batches on tight timelines. - Familiarity with cleanroom etiquette and ESD controls
, ensuring sensitive optics and electronics are never compromised during evaluation.
- Flight Hardware
Experience:
Past experience evaluating space‑flight hardware, high‑reliability electronics, or mission‑critical military/medical systems. - High‑Throughput Environment: Background in high‑volume production where hundreds of unique assemblies are moving through the inventory pipeline weekly.
- Digital Tool Proficiency: Experience writing highly descriptive tickets and tracking hardware anomalies in tools like Jira or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
- Industry
Certifications:
Active ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or IPC‑A‑610/620 electronics inspection certifications.
