Quality Technician
The Quality Technician (Quality Inspector) upholds rigorous quality regulations and executes comprehensive inspection processes to ensure all products meet specifications before they proceed to the manufacturing line. This role performs regular evaluations of incoming materials and outgoing assemblies, records inspection results in the quality management system, and recommends improvements to inspection methods and production processes. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, solid technical and analytical abilities, and the ability to interpret engineering documentation and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular quality assessments on all incoming materials from suppliers and outgoing products prior to shipment to distribution centers.
- Operate incoming-material structural-test equipment, running standardized load-and-stress protocols on received components.
- Conduct general part inspections, including dimensional, visual, and functional checks, using a broad array of precision measurement tools.
- Perform detailed inspections of carbon fiber parts, identifying delaminations, voids, or dimensional deviations, and flagging any discrepancies.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, plans, specifications, schematics, and technical documentation to extract inspection requirements and GD&T callouts.
- Measure product dimensions and examine functionality, comparing final products to documented requirements and specifications.
- Accurately record inspection data in the quality-management system, maintaining traceability of lot numbers, inspection outcomes, and performance records.
- Identify nonconformances, apply hold tags, and collaborate with quality engineering and suppliers on root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Reject products and materials that fail to meet quality expectations and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up actions.
- Define and refine inspection processes as operations scale, including determining what to inspect, how to inspect, and selecting appropriate measurement tools for each task.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives by refining inspection plans, reducing cycle times, and standardizing best practices.
- Recommend improvements to production processes to strengthen quality controls and support ongoing continuous improvement.
- Document inspection outcomes by completing inspection plans, checklists, and performance records in a timely and accurate manner.
- Resolve immediate quality-related inspection needs promptly to support production schedules and shipment timelines.
- Plan and organize daily inspection activities by reviewing outgoing inspection requirements, understanding production needs, and prioritizing assemblies such as tail fins, motor pods, wings, and other large components for final inspection.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on quality inspection experience in manufacturing, new product introduction, or a related field.
- Strong experience performing dimensional, visual, and functional inspections on a variety of parts and assemblies.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, plans, specifications, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to apply GD&T requirements during inspections.
- Hands-on experience using digital measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other precision inspection instruments.
- Ability to work with cross commodities including printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), metals, 3D printed parts, motors, electronics, composites, and other mechanical and electrical components.
- Experience performing quality inspections on large assemblies and structural components rather than only small parts.
- Proficiency with quality documentation software such as 1
Factory or similar quality management tools. - Ability to use task tracking software such as Jira or comparable systems to manage inspection tasks and quality actions.
- General computer literacy, including working with spreadsheets to record, analyze, and report inspection data.
