Position: Safety Specialist - Contract Opportunity

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced EHS professional with a minimum of 3 years of applied safety experience supporting regulatory compliance, site inspections, and safety program development. This role is based in South San Francisco, CA and supports site‑based environmental health and safety programs within a biotechnology and research environment. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, biosafety programs, and environmental compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support implementation and compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and compliance assessments
  • Develop, implement, and deliver EHS and biosafety training programs
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; develop corrective and preventative actions
  • Support environmental compliance programs including air, water, and hazardous waste management
  • Maintain EHS documentation, reports, and regulatory records
  • Track and analyze EHS metrics and performance indicators
  • Support development of site‑specific safety plans and procedures
  • Provide technical guidance on safety, biosafety, and industrial hygiene matters
  • Collaborate with operations, laboratory personnel, and management to improve safety culture
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and assess impacts to site operations
Required Certifications, Licensing, and Eligibility
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field (required)
  • Minimum 3 years of professional EHS experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and applicable state regulations
  • Valid driver’s license (if required for local travel)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting biotechnology, laboratory, or research environments
  • Experience with biosafety programs and regulatory compliance
  • OSHA 30‑hour certification
  • HAZWOPER 40‑hour certification
  • Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH, RBP, or CBSP (preferred)
  • Experience with environmental programs (air, water, hazardous waste)
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast‑paced environment
Working Environment

This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and requires on‑site work at a biotechnology research facility. The role involves collaboration with laboratory staff, operations teams, and EHS leadership to support a safe and compliant working environment.
