Job Summary
The laboratory of Dr. David Oh conducts translational research focusing on the intersection of immunology and oncology. The research associate will work closely with Dr. Oh on multiple research projects, with the objective of identifying novel ways to use innate immunity to cure cancer, and exploring mechanisms of immunotherapy. The position involves designing and executing experiments using human blood and tissue samples, in vitro culturing of human lymphocytes, functional experiments using cell culture protocols and flow cytometry techniques, data analysis, and minimal lab management, including collection and maintenance of a human specimen research bank.
The associate may have the opportunity to contribute to publications, grants, and to present new findings at national scientific and clinical conferences.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
Salary range: $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department DescriptionThe UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) integrates research and clinical work across four pursuits: laboratory research into cancer progression, clinical research to translate knowledge into treatments, patient care, and population research to improve prevention and early detection. The twin pillars of precision medicine and precision population health guide research and treatment at HDFCCC.
Required Qualifications- BA/BS relevant to biomedical research or related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Biomedical research lab experience, including tissue culture
- Knowledge of and experience with flow cytometry, PCR and basic molecular biology techniques
- Experience in lab maintenance and assisting team members
- Experience with cell culture techniques including maintenance of cell lines, transfection techniques, isolation of RNA and DNA
- Experience with protein biochemistry
- Ability to learn new methods/techniques
- Attention to detail throughout procedures
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent oral/written communication and analytical skills
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to determine cell numbers and dilutions of stock chemical solutions
- Computer skills at the level of using spreadsheet and word processing programs
- Experience with protein biochemistry
