Staff Research Associate 3 Job Summary
The UCSF-SFGH JJBH research team engages in a program of research that incorporates epidemiological/observation, behavioral intervention efficacy trial, and structural-level approaches to understanding how to improve behavioral health (HIV and sexually transmitted infections risk, psychiatric symptoms, substance use), and legal (recidivism) outcomes for system-involved youth and adults. The JJBH team also has a portfolio of work focusing on projects and programs specific to behavioral health service navigation for youth, young adults and families (e.g., a navigator program for transition age youth recently or currently involved in foster care, a family navigator program for youth and families served in Pediatric Primary Care at ZSFG), telehealth interventions for youth and families impacted by the child welfare system, and evaluation of gender-responsive behavioral health services for girls and women who have contact with the justice system (e.g., evaluation of Voices
HEAL gender responsive services).
The Juvenile in Justice Behavioral Health (JJBH) lab is seeking a Staff Research Associate. The incumbent will assist with complex tasks on a few projects within the JJBH lab such as Empower
ED. Project Empower
ED is a collaborative grassroots effort to develop a Less Restrictive Program (LRP) for youth detained in Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) programs who are interested in pursuing higher education. LRPs are promising alternatives to youth incarceration, allowing youth to serve their time in community-based settings. This work is being led by Cre8innovations, a community-based organization led by formerly incarcerated professionals in partnership with the Office of Youth and Community Restoration (OYCR).
The current study aims to document the LRP development process using implementation science frameworks to create a blueprint for future LRP development across California.
Duties will include:

Activities:
The candidate will engage in research activities that demand a high level of expertise and combines knowledge and skills from two distinct occupational fields or scientific disciplines. - Collaboration on Research Projects:
The candidate will collaborate with principal investigators and lab faculty on research projects, contributing innovative ideas and insights related to research procedures. Their contributions are expected to go beyond standard procedures and demonstrate a significant independent contribution. - Consultation and Problem-Solving:
The candidate will consult will principal investigators and lab faculty to plan the approach to basic research problems, read and abstract relevant articles, and contribute original ideas to the research process. - Report and Manuscript Preparation:
The candidate will prepare comprehensive written reports detailing research methods, ensuring that research findings are documented and communicated effectively in manuscripts and other publications.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $30.89 - $49.68 (Hourly Rate).
