Anthropic Fellows Program
Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for users and society. The Fellows Program is designed to foster AI research and engineering talent, providing funding and mentorship to promising technical talent regardless of prior experience.
Program OverviewThe Fellows receive 4 months of full‑time research funding, mentorship from Anthropic researchers, and access to shared work spaces in either Berkeley, California or London, UK. Fellows work on an empirical project aligned with Anthropic’s research priorities, with the goal of producing a public output such as a paper or technical report. Funding covers compute (≈$15k/month) and other research expenses.
Responsibilities- Conduct 4 months of full‑time research aligned with Anthropic’s priorities.
- Collaborate closely with assigned mentors and the broader AI safety and security research community.
- Develop and manage the empirical project, including data, experiments, analysis, and documentation.
- Produce a publicly visible output—such as a paper submission or technical report—by the end of the fellowship.
- Participate in weekly check‑ins, team discussions, and the broader research ecosystem.
- Weekly stipend of 3,850 USD / 2,310 GBP / 4,300 CAD, plus benefits that vary by country.
- Full access to a shared workspace (Berkeley or London) or the option to work remotely in the US, UK, or Canada.
- Coverage of compute resources and other research expenses.
- Potential eligibility for full‑time offers after the fellowship, with representation at Anthropic in previous cohorts ranging from 25–50%.
- Fluent in Python programming.
- Available to work full‑time for the duration of the fellowship (4 months).

- Motivated by ensuring AI is safe and beneficial for society as a whole.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and able to implement ideas quickly.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Background in a discipline relevant to a specific workstream (e.g., economics, social sciences, or cybersecurity).
- Experience with research or engineering tasks related to the chosen workstream.
- Track record of open‑source contributions.
- Experience with large language models and/or empirical ML research projects.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems with clarity and ownership.
- AI Safety Fellows – Focus on scalable oversight, adversarial robustness, model organisms, interpretability, and AI welfare.
- AI Security Fellows – Work on vulnerability research, offensive security, LLM‑related security, and red‑team tools.
- ML Systems & Performance Fellows – Build and optimize large‑scale ML infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
- Reinforcement Learning Fellows – Develop RL environments, explore generalization, and improve training data quality.
- Economics & Societal Impacts Fellows – Conduct empirical research on AI’s economic effects, labor markets, and societal impact.
- Program runs for 4 months, full‑time. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US, UK, or Canada and located in that country during the program.
